1 Corinthians: How Christ and the Gospel Shape the Church

The Church in Corinth was probably not the kind of church many of us would choose to attend: they were marked by division and conflict, denying the resurrection, confused about marriage and sexuality and abusing their spiritual gifts. And yet God meets all of these challenges by showing them how Christ and the gospel meets and deals with each issue they face. Just like the letter itself, our Christian life is lived out between ‘the cross’ and the final resurrection; and we need to learn how Christ and the gospel speak to the issues of our day and the challenges to our faith. This letter shows us how we can do that.
